I priced out some of the popular options for our build. For our kitchen, we are planning an island that is 9’6’’ by 6’2’’ and two smaller sections that are around 27’’ along the wall of cabinets. Below are the average prices we got quoted for the different materials along with some pros of each!
Material | Price | Pros |
Granite | $6,638 | Durability & Uniqueness |
Quartzite | $8,949 | Durability & Uniqueness |
Quartz | $6,500 | Maintenance Free & Food Safe |
Solid Surface | $4,380 | Durability & Low Maintenance |
Laminate | $758 | Budget Friendly (however, this is for an island that is 9’6’’ by 4’) |
Wooden Butcher Block | $1,350 | Warm Look, Budget Friendly Option |
Concrete | $8,584 | This was a white concrete mix which is about $1,000 more expensive. You may be able to find this option to be MUCH cheaper!!! I have heard great stories about home owners doing their own concrete countertop and saving thousands!! |
There are a lot of options out there for countertops. The most popular right now seem to be quartz and granite, both very durable and beautiful! There are ways to get the material you want and save! Check local suppliers for their specials, look online, and visits showrooms that often have a scrap yard! I have done some research and talked with several different companies and experts to compile all this information and I hope this helps as a starting point in your journey when it comes to countertops! Please feel free to comment and share your ideas and personal experiences with us!
